(Copied-pasted)

My friend, theres always hope somewhere in the world, an example of this was in Chile~

Footage from the 2004 Chilean movie "Machuca"

On september 11th, 1973, A US government (and corporation) backed military coup in Chile ousted democratically elected President Salvador Allende and ended South America's oldest constitutional democracy.

Allende was considered the worlds first democratically elected MARXIST leader and embarked on far reaching social and economic reforms in chile. This led to hostilities with Chiles wealthy elite as well as the united states.

After the coup, the military maintained control of Chile under the leadership of General Augusto Pinochet, one of history's most infamous dictators. During his authoritarian right-wing rule, thousands died and countless more imprisoned for both their political beliefs, and their economic class.

Chile remained in this dark shadow until a new government was formed in 1990.

declassified U.S. documents have revealed that the Chilean military was both supported and funded by the U.S. government in the coup.

The American Company ITT has also been found to have assisted in the coupe financially to protect their economic interests.

I believe this is one of the more important (and overlooked) moments in both U.S. and world history. I hope you all learn something from this video.
And I hope that you realize that regardless of your political leanings, what happened in Chile in 1973 was wrong, and nothing like that should ever happen again...

Socialism party have lost his root ideas in Chile
but this generation, young students of the generation 93's
will grow up, with Marxist forms and ideas, we will be back to what democracy should be like, with the people and workers,
Soon, the US gov will be traped on their own walls,
we can see this progressive suicide with the SOPA issues,
since they banished Megaupload, they are getting IP blocked around the world~ Now is time to watch how the capitalism system slowly dies...

What is Capitalism.
1. I don't think it is mercantilism, because while mercantile systems do seek profit, the producers still own the means of production (land, tools, etc.), and profit is made and wealth accumulated based on the ability of merchants to buy, sell, create monopolies, demand, scarcity, etc.
2. The definition--Any system for the management and distribution of capital (= any production in excess of that needed to satisfy the basic needs of an individual)--also took place long before modern capitalism developed. In fact, just about all human societies (economies) produce surplus. It's what happens to that surplus that's the interesting part.
3. Marx: A 'mode' (or historically dominant) form of production in which wealth is accumulated by owners of the means of production (land, factories, etc.) based on the "FREED" (landless) labor of workers. The wealth is then either spent (consumed) or reinvested in more production (then it becomes CAPITAL). Indicator that you're looking at a capitalist system: wages. Now, even today, lots of production (and reproduction) take place outside of wage systems, but many would argue that wages are the dominant form of organization of labor today, and that even those who are paid in ways that are not exactly wages, are affected by the comparison with wage system.

So, I agree, forces (mostly progressive) are moving GREATLY to collapse the evil capitalist system...but can I point out, that if that happens, without a new/better alternative, that history shows what will happen is:

1) Anarchy
2) Emergent pseudo government (warlords and gangs, city-states, etc...)
3) Tyranny

Can I suggest that perhaps, if we let things even GET to Anarchy, that we cannot halt the progression? What kind of system, government, would replace Anarchy?

How do we avoid the historical precident of the USSR and other Communist States, where in order to repress greed and human nature, they had to murder millions?

The only thing that worries me about this is that here we have someone saying, "I support your right to bake a cake but I insist that you leave all the ingredients in their packets". In short I wonder if the idea of 'left colourblindness' isn't both a canard and an excuse for non-involvement. Perhaps I am doing him an injustice, but on the other hand only he can take 'people of color' to the centre and that can only be done by involvement. The sidelines are not the centre and never will be. He can't stand on the sidelines and complain, he has to get stuck in there. His presence will change things - involvement does not have to mean submergence.

I have always maintained that liberation is total and inclusive or it is meaningless. The fact that colour has different levels of significance for different people is not the same as the accusation that 'group A' has a wilfully myopic attitude to 'group B'.

I have black friends. I know that their colour is significant to them in a way it is not to me. Neither I nor they regard our own view of this level of significance as being absolute. We regard each other's view as contributing to a greater overview. Each other's view informs us rather than creating a barrier or a problem. Knowing what to do with the information isn't easy, but we sure as hell don't do nothing with it.

I see the writer of the above article - a person with genuine grievances and an experience of something I can only guess at - veering too close, with his list of six loaded questions and his slogans, to setting up an aunt sally just to knock over by himself. To me that seems futile.

There is a level, an important level, where the identifiable problems of an identifiable group are vitally important to consider. I am a woman and recognise the particular struggles of women. But I can't divorce those problems and that struggle from the overall struggle. One group can't be liberated on its own; none of us is free as long as someone else is at a disadvantage.

What we are trying to deal with is a complex kyriarchy. It's lumpy, it's uneven, it's often contradictory. Pointing at the lumps and hurling accusations isn't going to make things any better.

what a wonderful comment. thank you Tahir!

i really like your idea that, "I believe like in any death, we particularly in the West are experiencing a collectively unconscious bereavement of capitalism."

our emotional and psychological selves tell us a lot about what is going on in the world. it's very interesting to ponder the wisdom that exists in our bodies and what this reveals not only about ourselves, but about the larger society and world.
