The only thing that worries me about this is that here we have someone saying, "I support your right to bake a cake but I insist that you leave all the ingredients in their packets". In short I wonder if the idea of 'left colourblindness' isn't both a canard and an excuse for non-involvement. Perhaps I am doing him an injustice, but on the other hand only he can take 'people of color' to the centre and that can only be done by involvement. The sidelines are not the centre and never will be. He can't stand on the sidelines and complain, he has to get stuck in there. His presence will change things - involvement does not have to mean submergence.

I have always maintained that liberation is total and inclusive or it is meaningless. The fact that colour has different levels of significance for different people is not the same as the accusation that 'group A' has a wilfully myopic attitude to 'group B'.

I have black friends. I know that their colour is significant to them in a way it is not to me. Neither I nor they regard our own view of this level of significance as being absolute. We regard each other's view as contributing to a greater overview. Each other's view informs us rather than creating a barrier or a problem. Knowing what to do with the information isn't easy, but we sure as hell don't do nothing with it.

I see the writer of the above article - a person with genuine grievances and an experience of something I can only guess at - veering too close, with his list of six loaded questions and his slogans, to setting up an aunt sally just to knock over by himself. To me that seems futile.

There is a level, an important level, where the identifiable problems of an identifiable group are vitally important to consider. I am a woman and recognise the particular struggles of women. But I can't divorce those problems and that struggle from the overall struggle. One group can't be liberated on its own; none of us is free as long as someone else is at a disadvantage.

What we are trying to deal with is a complex kyriarchy. It's lumpy, it's uneven, it's often contradictory. Pointing at the lumps and hurling accusations isn't going to make things any better.

what a wonderful comment. thank you Tahir!

i really like your idea that, "I believe like in any death, we particularly in the West are experiencing a collectively unconscious bereavement of capitalism."

our emotional and psychological selves tell us a lot about what is going on in the world. it's very interesting to ponder the wisdom that exists in our bodies and what this reveals not only about ourselves, but about the larger society and world.

Great article and well put in terms of delivering an understanding of why we are all so inter-connected and need to be in greater harmony rather than isolationist that capitalism brings. For far too long we have been driven to believe in this 'rugged individualism' rather community is the way forward.

However, no system is perfect and once abuse sets in, natures course is showing the decay of capitalism. One hopes like yourself that its death and the birth and maturity of a new system will incorporate the ideals you have mentioned and other healthy values.

I believe like in any death, we particularly in the West are experiencing a collectively unconscious bereavement of capitalism. Once we are over the shock, anger and denial, only then can we being the process of healing. Work like yours and many others is raising the consciousness in our world and I appreciate your courage to express your truth.

Starting by point 4, you are not thinking clearly. Your advice may be financially good, but if you are realistic, that cannot work for the better future. Its based on fact that 95% of other people will suck hard, while you enjoy your wealth. What you present is just greed, which is so typical for today's capitalism, negating even basic ethical principles.
What we need today are people with talent, who are not poisoned by greed of capitalism, but can use their talent for broader good. I don't say being rich is evil, but investments with pure intention of earning more money are evil, because they suck resources and energy from system to satisfy one's greed, and not providing any value to the environment.
Let be talented people and people who want to benefit world become rich, not evil today's capitalists.

Hello,

this is a nice website, but i am little bit afraid ideas posted here are more dreaming than reality. Needs of all people in this world will never be fulfilled. We do need growth and it may not be correlating with damaging earth, but rather technology growth over economic one. I agree, that capitalism is getting sick, but solution is not to entirely replace it, but to replace sick parts and make it more healthy. If our effort was more focused on technology growth, than economic growth, we could invest more resources into technology. Space is big and allows almost infinite resources and expansion, but our greed is slowing us to achieve our global goals of evolution.

Alex,

When Marx or you and I refer to "The Linear March of History" it should be remembered that he/we come from a Judo-Christian background which sees us all as groups and/or individuals sliding down toward the gates of hell before being redeemed.

Transfer this ideology to his materialism and what do we see???.
